Prayer 8

Lord, the world does not shock me anymore,
and the crazy things people do no longer alarm me.
Look at us compromise our lives for complicated lies. Our compass needles never come to rest, while our attitudes and expectations are being secretly inflated by great powers we do not even see.
We are desperate, but we diagnose it as ambition.
We celebrate our estrangement as independence
(we spill white-out on our Bible verses to get high off the fumes).
The ship is sinking fast, and I am trying to swim - while narcissistic mermaids belittle my goal, and smug pirates ridicule my efforts.
But I will keep swimming, and rest only when I reach your shore.
When I cross the line.
When I approach the door.
