The world is a supermarket of pleasure-pushers and
hucksters peddling dopamine surges.
Look at us: so needy and discontent that even the dumbest thrill
can seem like transcendence.
All these pleasure propositions overwhelm our ambiances.
From billboards to bumper stickers to bus benches. Our lives, Lord, have become battlefields of sensation and pleasure.
It's discipline versus dopamine.
It's creation versus the world.
It's obedience versus dependence.
The eternity of your kingdom, or the evaporating scams
and 10-minute thrills of a decaying world.
And the things that thrill us kill us.
The things that thrill us kill us.
